The new Metroid game for the Wii is coming out very nicely. A Developer’s Diary video was released recently for the game and I was able to watch it in GameTrailers (subscribed through Miro). The bad news is, it’s all in Japanese. The good news is, I know a bit of Japanese.:)

For those of you who can understand it, I recommend that you watch it. And even if you don’t, it’s still pretty. Video  after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

How lame is that? I’ve been so busy that I didn’t even know that a successor to the DS was unveiled at E3 almost a month ago! And it wasn’t even through some tech/gaming news site either. I only learned about it while I was reading a strip from Ctrl + Alt + Del.

    I SERIOUSLY WANT THIS.

Anyway, check out the CAD strip below.

In one of my earlier posts, I taught you how to install anything in Ubuntu. While I was browsing the Community Ubuntu Documentation on Games, I realized I’ve forgotten something.

Imagine if you were browsing a site explaining how to setup, say, a system that automatically downloads new episdodes of a show. Wouldn’t it be better and much simpler that instead of telling you “Step 1: Go to this website, Step 2: download the installer, Step 3:  run it on your computer”, you’re just given a link that says “Step1: Click here to install Miro“? (Note: If you’re running Ubuntu, that link will really ask to install Miro. Try it)

For the majority of you who have been using Windows for most of your life, when you hear installing programs with a browser, one thing that pops into your minds is downloading a program off the ‘net and installing it after you’ve downloaded. Or choosing a plugin for Firefox (which isn’t exactly what I meant with this topic).

One advantage of having a package manager in an operating system like Ubuntu is this level of integration that it provides. And this is one serious example.

In order to be able to do this, you must be running Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) or later. If you are using an earlier version of Ubuntu, you will have to install AptURL and setup a compatible browser (see here for instructions).

When you have that up and running, you can create an AptURL link simply by using the URL

    apt:packagename

    OR

    apt:packagename1,packagename2,…,packagenameX

And that’s it! When someone visits your site and you wanna tell them about this hot, new game or software you’re using, don’t just tell them what it is. Give them an AptURL install link.

Please vote for me and give me 5 stars!

Please vote for me and give me 5 stars!

I’m competing to get into the top 11 out of among around 40,000 applicants, who are without doubt mass spamming all their friends, their enemies, and their wonderful blog readers.;) Those 11 lucky people will get to work at the Great Barrier Reef as caretakers of the environment. Ten (10) will be picked by Tourism Queensland and one who gets the most votes on-line will become the 11th. Considering that I had  3 days to deadline when I learned about this, I think I made a pretty decent video application with the help of my ever-supportive girlfriend, and I was able to submit it just in time.

Here’s the link: CLICK HERE TO VOTE

I’m not sure what those Tourism Queensland people are looking for, and I’m hoping that my video turns out better than the rest, but I prefer having an insurance policy and that’s where you guys come in! I need you all to go check out my video (not necessarily to view nor critique it) and give me 5 stars, and to also tell your friends about me! Come on people, unless you’re one of the applicants, it wouldn’t do you any harm to give me 5 stars (application period is over anyway). Pretty please begging on my knees!

Here’s the link again just to be sure: CLICK HERE TO VOTE

Note: Their system seems to be tracking by IP. So if you are unable to vote, please vote for me from your house, your office, your nearest Starbucks/Krispy Kreme/Coffee Bean,  or better yet all of ‘em. Just not all of you from the same place, it won’t work. And tell your friends too! Also, I’m not sure but I think they reset the logging daily, so you can vote everyday!

Bin Laden You know somethings terribly wrong when politicians start using names like “Bin Laden” as their political slogans for their campaign materials, As seen in this newspaper ad in a local newspaper. Ironically, the “A” in the Bin Laden acronym stands for “Advocate of Peace”……Right…don’t you worry, you have my vote.
