Don’t get fooled by the marketing; you don’t need to buy a new laptop to use this feature. On an Ubuntu laptop, this feature is turned off by default but can easily be turned on without any additional software.

Here are the steps to enable two-finger scrolling in Ubuntu:

1. Go to System > Preferences
2. Open up Mouse settings
3. From there, go to the Touchpad tab.
4. Select Two-finger scrolling
5. You may also want to check Enable horizontal scrolling

This works from Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx onwards. If you have an older version, you can follow this tutorial to enable it on Ubuntu 8.10 onwards, but be prepared to edit some config files manually.

However, for some of you who found the first Force Unleashed game not to their satisfaction (most likely due to the Force Grip controls), you’ll be happy to know that the developers promised a better, improved system.

Pre-order your copy now! Because we all know it’s much cooler to get stuff before the rest of the normal people.

Update: The collector’s edition of the game will allow you to play as the original Starkiller (in the early drafts of the original Star Wars trilogy), but Play-Asia isn’t offering it just yet. I’ll keep you posted.

For those of you who can understand it, I recommend that you watch it. And even if you don’t, it’s still pretty. Video  after the jump.

Aside from a lot of commentary on why they did what they did, here are some things that seemed to matter to me. Since the original NES version of Metroid used only the D-Pad and the A and B buttons, they wanted to go back to its roots while still maintaining a rich and fairly complex game experience. They intended to do this by making the buttons contextual, that is to say, the action button’s behavior changes depending on the enemies you’re battling with, the D-Pad which is used normally to move Samus around becomes dodging when an enemy is firing on you, etc.


This time around, they wanted to show both sides of Samus–Samus the alien ass-kicking armored warrior, and Samus the fleshy female. They put a lot of work in on rigging Samus’s face to show a whole range of emotions. And gone is the shroud of mystery that has hounded Samus in previous games, but now everything about Samus’s character and background is revealed.

The game comes out August 31, 2010. Let’s all hope this is going to be one bad-ass game!

I’m competing to get into the top 11 out of among around 40,000 applicants, who are without doubt mass spamming all their friends, their enemies, and their wonderful blog readers.;) Those 11 lucky people will get to work at the Great Barrier Reef as caretakers of the environment. Ten (10) will be picked by Tourism Queensland and one who gets the most votes on-line will become the 11th. Considering that I had  3 days to deadline when I learned about this, I think I made a pretty decent video application with the help of my ever-supportive girlfriend, and I was able to submit it just in time.

I’m not sure what those Tourism Queensland people are looking for, and I’m hoping that my video turns out better than the rest, but I prefer having an insurance policy and that’s where you guys come in! UPDATE: A mighty thank you to all of you who voted for me. It was a great effort, I was the applicant who probably had the highest increase in views in the Philippines, but the Tourism Queensland guys probably found better people for the 50 shortlisted applicants. The 50 will be announced on Monday, but as I had not received any word about the psychometric testing for the top 50, which was supposed to be mailed out last Thursday, it only meant one thing.
